Ministry of Education plans to drop job guarantee for trainee teachers

Second Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said the move to be implemented in stages was to ensure that only quality trainees were offered the post of school teacher.
“Currently, trainee teachers from IPG and IPTA are quaranteed jobs as teachers without considering their performance. This time, we want to make teaching a noble profession.
“So, we have to choose the best. Only those with noble character and can produce a great society will be offered the job,” he told reporters after the 3rd convocation of IPG, here today.
Idris said the move was to ensure that only those really interested in making teaching a career were appointed as teachers, not those who had no other choice.
“In Finland for example, only the best candidates will be selected as teachers and that is why the standard of education in the country is high.”
However, the plan is still at discussion stage and requires indepth study before it can be implemented.
Some 3,988 graduates received their degrees at the three-day convocation starting today.-BERNAMA
